Crucibulum laeve              White Bird's Nest

Sometimes called White Bird's Nest or White-Egg Bird's Nest or even Common Bird's Nest, this is the most common of the woodland species of Bird's Nest Fungi (BNF) in the East and fruits on dead twigs or branches.  It is easily recognized by the white to cream-coloured "eggs" (=  peridioles).  The cone-shaped fruitbodies are only about a centimetre tall and/or broad.  The disk-shaped eggs are about 1.5 mm across and their centre is packed with thousands of spores (basidiospores).Click here for microsection of Crucibulum
