Pholiota flammans                 Flaming Pholiota

Well named, the Flaming Pholiota fruits on conifer logs and stumps.  It is widespread but not common and is recognized by its brilliant yellow colour.

Caps are 4-8 cm across, bell-shaped to convex becoming flat, covered with yellow, cottony scales, bright golden-yellow to orange-yellow.  Gills are broadly attached, close, yellow, becoming rust-brown. Stalks are up to 10 cm tall by 1 cm broad, bright yellow, scaly. Rings are yellow and disappear.  Not edible.
