Chroogomphus rutilus

Caps are 5-12 cm, convex to broadly convex,smooth, with a small knob, olive-brown to red-brown, and slimy when wet. Flesh is yellowish to salmon. Gills are decurrent, well-spaced, and buff to olive-purple. Stalks are up to 15 cm tall by 2.5 cm wide, fibre-streaked, and orange with reddish tints. Spore prints are smoky brown to black. Widespread and not uncommon, this distinctive species fruits under conifers. Edible.
