Rhodotus palmatus This pink-spored mushroom is recognized by the raised white network on a flesh-coloured to red-brown cap. I have never found this species and this exceptionally fine photo was taken by Greg Thorn in Gatineau Park, Quebec. Caps 2-7 cm, convex becoming flat, flesh-coloured to brick-red, with a raised white network over the surface. Gills attached, close, pink. Stalks up to 3 cm long by 6 mm broad, lateral, curved, hairy, coloured as cap. Spore print pink. This beautiful and distinctive mushroom is widespread but rare, it fruits on dead hardwoods. Not edible. |
