
Fomes fomentarius Tinder Polypore
Fruitbodies are bracket-form, broadly attached, up to 20 cm wide, woody, hoof-shaped, with height often exceeding width, smooth, zonate, and light grey to blackish grey and shades of brown. Pores are beige to ochre becoming dark brown, round, 3-4 per mm, up to 1 cm deep, and in produced sequentially in many annual layers (perennial). Widespread and very common, this bracket fruits on dead deciduous trees and logs.
