Geastrum pectinatum                   Beaked Earthstar

Fruitbody has 5-10 arms.   Arms reflex completely to raise the spore sac into the air. Spore sac is   globose to subglobose, about 2.5 cm across, with elongate, deeply-grooved mouth (peristome) that is clearly demarcated from the rest of the spore sac.   The species is easily recognized by the long, beak-like mouth.  It fruits on the ground or on well-rotted stumps but is not common.
