Caps are 7-20 cm across, dry, yellow-brown to olive, kidney-shaped to irregularly lobed, with an inrolled margin, becoming flat.  Flesh is tough, yellow, and stains blue-green to brown. Tubes are shallow, and yellow to ochre. Pores are radially arranged, large, and variable in size and shape. Stalks are short, up to 4 cm tall, stout, and off-centre.  Also known as Boletinellus merulioides. Fruits under ash. Edible.
