Hymenoscyphus fructigenus

Fruitbodies are tiny, disc-shaped, up to 4 mm across, and white to off-white or cream-coloured. Stalks are coloured as the cap and very variable in length. This sac fungus is widespread and fruits on beechnuts and acorns during prolonged wet periods.  The discs in this photograph are fruiting on an old acorn.
