Diagnostic FeaturesLooking at the underside of this mushroom you can see several important features of the genus Pluteus

1. The gills turn pinkish as the spores mature (pink-spored group)

2. The gills are free ( the ends of the gills don't quite touch the stalk).

3. The Fawn-Coloured Pluteus grows on wood and is very common and widespread.
