Strobilomyces strobilaceus Old Man of the Woods
Description: Caps are 5-15 cm, convex, dry, with thick blackish scales on a greyish to grey-brown ground. Flesh is white, staining red to black. Tubes are white, staining red then black. Pores are grey to balck. Stalks are up to 13 cm tall by 3 cm wide, shaggy, and coloured as the cap. Spore prints are black. It fruits on the ground or on dead wood. It is also known as Strobilomyces floccopus.
