
Tylopilus felleus Bitter Bolete
Description: Caps are 8-25 cm across, dry, smooth to powdery, tan or yellow-brown to red-brown. Flesh is white, not staining, and with a very bitter taste. Tubes are white to tan, ageing pinkish or staining brown. Pores are small and angular. Stalk are up to 15 cm tall by 3 cm wide, broader at the base, with a surface network near the cap (= reticulate). Spore prints are pink. It fruits on the ground in mixed or coniferous woods. Not edible.
