Auricularia auricula                 Ear Fungus

Fruitbodies are 2-10 cm across, irregularly cup-shaped to ear-shaped, rubbery to gelatinous, red-brown to violet-brown and often with raised vein-like markings. The outside is slightly hairy and the inside is smooth. The fruitbody becomes horny and black when dry but revives when rewetted. Widespread and not uncommon, it fruits on dead branches and logs. Edible.
