
Gymnopilus spectabilis Big Laughing Mushroom
Caps are 5-12 cm across, dry, smooth or becoming hairy, convex to flat, and yellow-brown to orange-brown. Flesh is yellowish and bitter. Gills are attached, close, yellowish, and age rusty. Stalks are up to 15 cm tall, and 2 cm broad, coloured as cap, and fibril-streaked below the ring. Ring is persistent, yellow-brown, becoming dark brown with spores. Spore prints are reddish brown. Widespread and fairly common, it fruits in clusters on dead wood. Poisonous.
