Hygrophorus fuligineus

Caps are 3-10 cm across , smooth, slimy when wet, blackish-brown to dark olive-brown, and paler at margin. Gills are broadly attached to slightly decurrent, pallid, and far apart.  Stalks are up to 10 cm tall by 1.5 cm broad, white, and slimy.  Rings are slimy, and disappear.   Spore prints are white.  Widespread and not uncommon, it fruits on the ground in woods.
