Hygrocybe punicea Caps 2-6 cm, slippery to slimy when wet, smooth, conic, becoming convex to nearly flat, bright red, becoming orange. Gills attached, well-spaced, yellow to orange-red. Stalks up to 6 cm tall by 12 mm broad, becoming hollow, red fading to yellow, with paler base. Spore print white. Widespread and not uncommon, this waxcap fruits on the ground in woods. |
