Arcyria cinerea       Grey Arcyria

Arcyria cinerea is certainly one of the more attractive slime moulds.  The sporangia are mostly single (click here) but sometimes the stalks fuse to form a   'bunches' of sporangia as seen above.

Sporangia are short-cylindrical, pale grey with blackish stalks, and up to 4 mm tall. Sometimes 3-7 individual sporangia are clustered on a common stalk. The grey Arcyria is one of the most common of the slime moulds in our region. It fruits on rotten wood in scattered troops sometimes involving hundreds of sporangia.
