Arcyria denudata

The sporangia in this species vary considerably in colour and this collection is a rich brick-red. Sporangia fade with age and weathering to a dull brown.

Sporangia are up to 3 mm tall, ovoid to short-cylindrical, and brick-red to purple-brown. The outer wall disappears and the contents expand to form a bright, purple-red, cottony mesh. The colour may fade with age to a drab brown. This is one of the most common of the slime moulds and produces extensive fruitings of hundreds of sporangia on well rotted logs.
