Caps are 1.5-5 cm, dry, smooth, convex becoming depressed with a wavy margin, cinnabar-red, and fading in age. Gills are decurrent, far apart, blunt, forked, and coloured as cap or tinged pink. Stalks are up to 4 cm tall by 6 mm wide, smooth, tough, and coloured as cap or paler. Spore prints are white.
