Cortinarius mutabilis     Purple Staining Cort

Caps are violet to grey-violet or blue-violet, slimy, and the violet flesh stains deep purple when bruised.

Caps are 4-10 cm across and hemispherical to broadly convex. Flesh is violet, bruising purple. Gills are close, violet ageing red-brown, bruising purple. Stalks are up to 10 cm tall, coloured as cap, bruising purple, silky striate and with a bulbous base. It fruits under western conifers.
