Mutinus ravenelii

In Mutinus ravenelii the stalks are rose pink, uniformly wide, tend to be short and stocky, and have large open pores.  The stalk is more or less erect and the head is relatively short and clearly demarcated from the stalk. 

In Mutinus elegans the stalk is orange-red, curved, not markedly porous and tapers towards the base.  The head merges with the stalk, is tapering and curved and can be up to half the length of the fruitbody (click here).

In Mutinus caninus the stalks are tall, slender, and white
