Phallus ravenelii

Fruitbodies are 10-15 cm tall.  The head is covered by a dark, slimy, olive-green spore mass, and is smooth to granular below spores and never chambered.  This feature distinguishes this species from Phallus impudicus which has a chambered (morel-like ) head after the spore mass is removed.   Widespread and not uncommon, this species fruits on well rotted logs or in wood debris, sawdust, etc. Not edible.
