Syzygospora mycetophila - Parasitic Jelly
Common parasite on Gymnopus dryophilus (= Collybia dryophila)
Warty to brain-like growths break out over the cap and stalks of the host mushroom. The outgrowths are the fruitbodies of the parasitic jelly fungus. The species of Syzygospora involved must be confirmed microscopically. A fungus that parasitizes another fungus is referred to as a mycoparasite. A parasite that attacks another parasite is called a hyperparasite.
