Asci and Ascospores of Ascobolus

Ascospores have thick, rough walls and can take a great deal of environemntal abuse (heat, cold, drought, water, digestive juices) before germinating to renew the cycle of growth. Germ slits allow the ascospore to keep in contact with the outside environment and monitor conditions to check for nmutrient availability.
