Coprinus atramentarius        Tipplers's Bane

Caps 2-8 cm, conic to bell-shaped, silvery grey tobrownish grey, smooth and striate (silky-fibrillose). Gills free, crowded, white becoming black, dissolving into black fluid. Stalks up to 15 cm tall by 2 cm wide, white, hollow. Ring disappearing early. Spore print black. Widespread and common, it fruits in grassy places from buried wood. Edible, but do not consume with alcohol. Coprinus species autolyse (self digest) very quickly and, as formost Inky Caps, you must eat them the same day as you pick them!
