Coprinus comatus                Shaggy Mane

Caps 5-15 cm tall, conic to bell-shaped, dry, covered with brown or blackish recurved scales. Gills free (hard to tell!), crowded, white to beige, becoming black, dissolving into inky fluid. Stalks up to 15 cm tall by 2 cm wide, smooth, hollow. Ring white, movable. Spore print black. Widespread and common, Shaggy Mane fruits in grass and is often associated with disturbed sites. Edible but eat it the day it is picked or you'll suck it through a straw.
