Sarcoscypha austriaca                Scarlet Cup

Fruits on twigs of hardwoods early in the year often hidden under fallen leaves.  It can be found in Ontario in April. Used to be called Sarcoscypha coccinea in this region but the latter is a different species and is not found in the east although it is still the scientific name used for Scarlet Cup in the west.
