Hypocrea pulvinata Fruiting on Polypore

Hypocrea is a stromatic fungus.    This is a young specimen.  The perithecia are embedded in the stroamata and appear as darker spots over the surface.  In high humidity or wet weather the discharged spores block up the ostiole and the masses of ascospores give a mealy appearance to the surface of the stroma.
