
Tricholoma portentosum
Caps are 5-12 cm, convex to broadly convex and knobbed, grey to grey-black, fibre-streaked. The taste is pleasant. Gills are attached, close, white, often tinged yellow. Stalks are up to 10 cm tall by 2 cm wide, white, sometimes flushed yellowish, fibre-streaked. Spore print is white. Widespread but not common, it fruits under conifers in sandy locations late in the year. Edible but not recommended as easily confused with poisonous species.
