Hericium abietis

Hericium abietis is one of the giants of the tooth fungi and has been recorded up to 75 cm ( 2.5 feet) wide and as high.  Easily identified, it is reported as edible and delicious (according to some!).  As the species name suggests it fruits on firs. This one was photographed on Vancouver Island.
