Amanita constricta

This western Amanita species is metallic grey to brownish grey with a markedly striate margin.  The conspicuous cup is flared at the soil surface but closely pressed (almost fused) to the stalk below ground.   It fruits under hardwoods particularly oaks. It resembles Amanita pachycolea.
