Get Involved with Habitat Guelph!

Hello Habitaters! Volunteering with Habitat is both fun and rewarding!
Read below to learn about the different ways you can get involved:

Join a Committee
If you are interested in becoming more involved with Habitat, express your ideas and meet new people, joining a committee may just be the perfect fit. We'll likley meet once a month outside of the General Meeting, depending on the need and upcoming events.

We have 3 different committees:
Fundraising and Events Committee
Help run fundraising events and help brainstorm new ideas for creative ways to raise money. Orientation week events, bake sales, band nights and much more. If you're interested in joining, please email Bailey, bgould@uoguelph.ca!

Advocacy Committee
Help raise awareness about the important issues on poverty housing.  Setting up awareness campaings on campus, teaming up with other social awareness clubs on campus, writing articles in the Ontario/local media, or sending letters to politicians so they can realize that affordable homeownership is a serious issue in Canada. If you're interested in joingin, please email Heather, mcconneh@uoguelph.ca!

Habitat Week Committee
Help organize for the National Student Habitat Week (Jan 22-26). Typically we run band nights, speakers, silent auction/raffle, poverty awareness campaings, and tent village (camping out in the middle fo January in Branion Plaze, it's cold but alot of fun!). If you're interested in joining, please email Katie, kandrzej@uoguelph.ca!

Participate in Local Builds
The most exciting way to get involved with Habitat Guelph is to take part in an actual house build. This is a hands-on way of learning what Habitat is all about! No experience is required since volunteers of all experience levels are welcome!

Habitat Guelph will supply transportation & work boots if needed. We ask that each person provide a $20.00
DEPOSIT that is fully refundable upon the day of the build.

Check out the Builds page for upcoming local build dates that you can sign up for.  If you have any questions, please email Krystal koviatt@uoguelph.ca!

Reading Week Trips (February 14-22, 2008)
Reading week trips to the United States and Central America are one of our most popular ways to get involved with Habitat for Humanity. This year, we will be have 6 trips (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, El Salvador and Honduras). Teams of students will be traveling together and spend a week to help build homes outside of Canada. You will meet new people and have an experience that you won't forget! American trips cost ~$500 and Central American trips ~$2000.

Check out the Reading Week Trips page for more detailed information. If you have any questions, please email Tara tcameron@uoguelph.ca!

Join the Chapter Executive
The Guelph campus executive, coordinators are elected annually in March and they are responsible for the coordination of events and activities of the Chapter.  Stay tuned for position descriptions and learn how to be nominated and elected. Please email habitat@uoguelph.ca if you have any questions.
