Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo

Participants will study the jo school of Muso Gunnosoke which dates to the early 1600's. Practice is done with a 50 inch staff against a bokuto and in this class we will concentrate on techniques from the omote (first) set of kata.

Requirements: participants will require loose clothing. Jo and Bokuto are required and can be borrowed or purchased.

Kim Taylor

Kim Taylor is one of the organizers of the Guelph School of Japanese Sword Arts and is the chief instructor of the University of Guelph Sei Do Kai, a club which provides instruction in Iaido, Niten Ichi-ryu and Jodo. He holds renshi 7th dan rank in iaido and 5th dan rank in jodo from the Canadian Kendo Federation (CKF) and is a member of the CKF Iaido and Jodo Grading committees, associate editor of the Journal of Asian Martial Arts, Publisher of the Electronic Journals of Martial Arts and Sciences ( and of the Journal of Japanese Sword Arts. He has authored several books and articles on the sword. Taylor has received his jodo training from several hanshi and kyoshi hachidan from both Tokyo and Fukuoka.
