Come and experience the world of Yagyu Shinkage Ryu. Our seminar will feature a look into the unique sword techniques and philosophy of this famous school of Japanese swordsmanship. As the official school of swordsmanship of the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, it has a special distinction in the annals of Japanese swordsmanship.
Fukuro shinai is the typical practice tool. But for the purposes of our seminar, regular kendo shinai (bamboo sword) is acceptable.
Our guest instructor will be Mr. Douglas Tong. Douglas began his study of Yagyu Shinkage Ryu under the late Master Masao Mutoh, the 10th soke of Yagyu Shingan Ryu Taijutsu (Edo-Line) and 2nd headmaster of the Ohtsubo Branch of the Owari Line of Yagyu Shinkage Ryu. Douglas now continues his studies under Mutoh Sensei’s successor, Master Yasushi Kajitsuka. Master Kajitsuka is also the Secretary General of the Nihon Kobudo Shinkokai (the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Classical Martial Arts), the oldest and largest national association of the classical bujutsu (koryu) in Japan. Douglas runs the official study group (keiko-kai) for Yagyu Shinkage Ryu (Ohtsubo Branch) in Canada under Master Kajitsuka.
