College Royal 2008

College Royal is the largest university open house event of its kind North America. Each March, the University of Guelph opens its doors to the general public in a campus-wide open house that attracts over 30 000 visitors every year. During College Royal 2008 a demo was setup to show how plants take CO2 out of the environment. This demo was an interactive display where general public especially children learned about the photosynthesis, global warming and bio-fuels. People participated in the discussions  on environment and asked questions about different issues related to global warning and bio-fuels.

Photosynthesis display to show how plants take CO2 out of the environment and fix it during photosynthesis. Plants are enclosed in a Plexiglas chamber. When light is turned on the plant leaves start photosynthesizing. This process takes CO2 out of the box and fix it in the leaves which result a continuous CO2 drop in the chamber measured by Infra Red Gas Analyzer. The results are projected on the screen.
