Geraldine (Gerry) Ryan is a PhD student. Gerry grew up in Ireland and came to Canada to pursue her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, where she received an Honors Bachelor degree in biology. During her undergraduate degree she worked on a number of projects ranging from vertebrate neurophysiology to insect feeding physiology to plant ecology. From April 2007 - October 2007 she work as a research assistant in AgResearch in Palmerston North, on the north island of New Zealand, on a joint research project between Jonathan Newman, Tony Parsons (AgResearch), Susanne Rasmussen (AgResearch) and Joy Bergelson (University of Chicago). Gerry came to Guelph in the autumn of 2007 where her research is focused on establishing a mechanistic link between the effects of climate change on plant physiology and the impacts of these changes on aphid performance and population dynamics. Her work involves the extraction and analysis of phloem sap using the aphid stylectomy technique.
