Do you have a healthy relationship with your computer ?



GOAL :

This 3 part program presents the strategies to prevent repetitive strain, injury or pain in the areas of hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, neck, back, and eyes of those who work more that 4 or 5 hours a week at computer related tasks.

(Individuals with repetitive strain injuries should also seek medical treatment / therapy.)


Part 1 - Risk Basics

This important information session identifies your risk profile and strategies for preventing repetitive strain, based upon researchers' recommendations for a wholistic, systems approach in order to most effectively prevent computer-related repetitive strain.

TOPICS in Part 1 include :

Part 1 = 1 session

DATE, TIME, LOCATION : TBA

FEE :
$ 5 for University of Guelph students
$ 10 for members of United Steelworkers Local 4120 (due to a subsidy from Local 4120)
$ 20 for all others


Part 2 - SKILLS TRAINING

Build on your action plan and begin developing strong lifetime skills which decrease risk, including the techniques recommended by researchers at the Healthy Computing Laboratory (San Francisco State University).

TOPICS in Part 2 include :

Part 2 = 4 sessions

DATES, TIME, LOCATION : T B A

FEES :
$ 20 for University of Guelph students
$ 30 for members of United Steelworkers Local 4120 (due to a subsidy from Local 4120)
$ 60 for all others

A minimum of 8 is required.


Part 3 - MUSCLE TENSION BIOFEEDBACK , on a 1:1 basis

Further your skills using instantaneous muscle tension biofeedback (monitoring position and muscle tension levels) to decrease the tension and strain during computer related tasks.

Part 3 = 2 sessions - by appointment

FEES : $ 40 for University of Guelph students; $ 60 for others

A new program can begin anytime there are 8 or more names on the list.
