St. Thomas established a free public library in 1884. In 1903, after a Carnegie grant of $27,000 was received, construction began on a new building, which was completed in 1905.
Main floor: magazine and general reading room, newspaper room, reference room, office, and stack room.
Cost: $27,000 building and $2,000 furnishings
