Liberation
War
When I was three and
a half, the liberation war was started. The only thing I can remember that
the attack of Pak army's on my Grandfather's house, where we were in that
horrible eleven months. After the independence, I went to visit the massgrave
with my uncle, where I observed remains of thousands of martyres, who were
killed by the army and their friends at the dawn of the independence.
My
School
We were very close to
the Prabartak school and when I was four, my mother took me and admitted
me in Grade I. Soon after the school seemed to be inappropriate. There
was a new co-ed school named Bangladesh Women's Association School, whose
Principal was asking my mother to send me to her school. Accordingly, next
year I was transferred to that school and again started from Grade I. Yes,
now the real schooling has been started.. I was little bit naughty at that
age, Grade I friends of mine whom I can remember are- Asif, Ishtiaque,
Tanya, Rupa I (my beloved wife), Hasan I (red hasan), Hasan II (Tall hasan),
Sharmeen (rupa II), and Rupa III, Kuhu, Tanuja (Broken Bamboo at College)
etc..
I had a small one band AM radio at that time... We were living in a single storied house beside an old pond and an old Jackfruit tree. My mother planted jute and I can still remember the taste of that stir fried green jute .. What else, I used to collect several green vegetables from the courtyard and as well as from the pond. The major species from the pond was Kangkong. Sometimes, I fished in the pond, and one day, I caught 48 Puntious and 2 shoals... and there was a real great feast that day in my house...
In
the mean time, in 1972 my younger brother Humayun (Towhid) waS born....
and he was one of the most cuty baby at that time I have ever seen.. When
I was eight, at one night, thieves came in and stole everything we had...
My favourite one band AM radio was also accompanied the thieves.. I couldn't
sleep for three nights.. There was no dress clothes left for anybody of
my family... that was a real sad period and suddenly, my father got an
offer from the Government of Iran.... And I became alone
and aloof at the age
of eight as all of my family left me........
My
Highschool
In 1979, when I was
in Grade VI, transfered to Nasirabad Govt. High School and after two and
a half years, my parents and younger brother came back from Iran due to
repeated complain from my grand parents that I am becoming out of control.
My father tried to settle down and started private practice as a Physician...
I got admitted in the Residential Model High School, Comilla and that was
the first time in my life, I was able to understand what is called parental
guidence.... HAPPY TIME NEVER LASTS LONG... Just six months later,
my beloved father was brutally killed by two unknown persons in his own
chamber....
My mother brought back me from Comilla and again, I was admitted to the Nasirabad Govt. High School.. A bindingless, flawless life has been started... I got to know how to smoke, what is marizuana and so on... Within a year, I passed the SSC Examination, and luckily I was one of the sixteen guys who got first division from the school. And got admitted to one of the most prestigeos college of the country- Chittagong College.
My
College
Chittagong College is
one of the oldest colleges of the country that established in 1859. The
floppyness of my life became more floppy and I started watching movies
without attending classes, and had hundreds of friends from different categories...
I had Player Group, Fazil Group, Movie Group, Mastan Group
and so on.... Suddently, I found that the exam, is very close, and I had
the worst result of my life in that exam.
My
University
After
that worst result, I took admission in the Institute of Marine Science
to pursue B.Sc. (Honours) with the only objective- to continue education...
However, soon after I started undergrad., attracted by the so called left
political movement (as my father was involved with one of them), and was
being roughly activated in the then political movement against autocratic
rule. Procession, picketing, and teaching and learning political lessons
became an integral part of my everyday life... My first year's result in
the undergrad, initiated to break this lifestyle little bit and I started
thinking of the exams. There was an excellent inprovement in the second
year, and in the third year, I got first class. In the M.Sc., though I
got highest marks (70 percent) in theory, due to some causes my position
was downed to fifth... It was OK and to the Professors, I was really not
that person to be in that position..
History
of
My Love
I used to sing everywhere,
when I had a chance or where I was requested. One day, I was leading a
choir in a cultural function and after the function, a member of my group
came to me and told that a girl wants to meet me. I was not delighted at
all as my primary motto was politics and it ended up in a casual meeting,
no excitement, nothing. Though she was my junior at that time, I thought
she is my senior and it was almost a blunder. Got ashamed of when I have
heard that she is my junior !!! However, after few months, when I
started organizing a cultural group in City, met her and got to know that
she was my batch mate in the Grade I.. That was the start of an epic of
friendship... We started to move everywhere and started to do every
work together and was proudly telling others that this is a true friendship,
though my then close friends were repeatedly cautioned me on the impossibilities
of true friendship between a man and a woman- unbelieveable but true for
an underdeveloped country, Bangladesh....
At last, after a long struggle, crossing hundreds of hurdles, we got married on February 4, 1994.. And my first daughter was born just one year later... I was continuously changing jobs and ended up with CARE as Technical Officer in 1995.
JourneytoThailand
In
January, 1996 I got a scholarship from the Swedish International Development
Authority (SIDA) to study M.S. (Aquaculture) in the Asian Institute of
Technology), Thailand. I left for Thailand leaving my wife and daughter
back in Bangladesh. However, after eight months they joined me and I started
a true family life after two and half years of marriage. Though, that life
was hard and we have to maintain within a very limited sum, it was nice
that we were getting the taste of family life. After, twenty months I successfully
completed the degree with an outstanding output, and as a result, appointed
as a Research Associate with USAID funded PD A/CRSP program.
You can hear the rhyme that my elder daughter KRITTA first favourite
[baba
black ship], and here is another
one- goosy.
Journeyto
Canada
In
the mean time, when I was in Thailand, God awarded me with my secnond daughter
. After a year, got an offer to pursue PhD in the University of Guelph,
Canada and from September, 1998 started another hardship for study with
the family.
