The Voice for Plant Agriculture Grads
Your Plant Ag GSLC
The Plant Agriculture Graduate Student Liaison Committee (GSLC) is a committee comprised solely of graduate students from the Department of Plant Agriculture. The graduate student representatives that were elected also serve on the Graduate Student Teaching Committee. The purpose of the GSLC is to encourage student participation in departmental activities and provide a link between students and the department.
A primary objective of the GSLC is to develop an orienteering service to new graduate students in our department. Every semester, GSLC members will be available to take new students on a basic tour of the Bovey and Crop Science buildings, introduce the students to the facilities and people in our department, as well as provide an up to date student handbook. The major orientation is held in September where all faculty, staff and students are invited to meet the new students from the previous three semesters.
Additional events which may be organized by GSLC members include trips to baseball games, NSERC/OGS scholarship information group, PhD qualifying exam preparation group, fundraising activities and departmental retreats. The GSLC also helps to maintain an effective and informed graduate program and aids the department in getting feedback from the students on specific issues.
The GSLC provides a valuable link between faculty, students and staff as well as with other university associations. For example, faculty may notify the GSLC when volunteer opportunities arise within the department, or promote participation for an event through members.
Current students should contact Kristen, Kate or any GSLC member with problems or ideas for events, and their concerns will be brought to the appropriate committee, or dealt with directly by the GSLC.
