Courses

Paul Hebert co-ordinates the delivery of two field courses, Arctic Ecology and Tropical Ecology. In addition, he has supervised the development of the CD-ROM computer modules for the laboratory component of Introduction to Aquatic Environments.

Arctic Ecology

This is a two-week field course that takes places in the Churchill Northern Studies Centre in Churchill, Manitoba. The Arctic Ecology field course is designed to provide students with an introduction to Canada's arctic, and provides experience with the plant and animal life found in marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems in the high arctic. Students enrolled in Arctic Ecology carry out individual research projects, participate in group research activities and aid in the assembly of a group report that examines the breadth of polar research activity. The course includes lectures, field exercises and student projects.

Tropical Ecology

This course provides an introduction to the physical environments and biological communities of the tropics, with a focus on coral reef and rainforest ecosystems. This course involves two weeks at Lizard Island Research Station, one of the more remote field stations on the Great Barrier Reef, followed by a ten day stay in the Daintree Rainforest.
