i) Laura Hall

City branding and the politics of place

Laura is a theatre-buff and a geography enthusiast. At Carleton, she is working towards a Master of Arts in Canadian Studies, specializing in cultural policy. Research interests include: creative cities/class, neo-bohemianism, urban and federal cultural policy, urban studies, and culture-led urban renewal. Laura attained her undergraduate degree in Public Affairs and Policy Management from Carleton University, and has spent several years working in the cultural sector in Ottawa.

ii) Bryce K.P. Gunson

“Dealing with Shit: Addressing the Challenges and Opportunities of a Collaborative Decision Making Approach for Siting a High-Level Nuclear Waste Repository in Canada”

My name is Bryce Gunson and I am a masters (MA) candidate at Wilfrid Laurier University in the Waterloo-Laurier joint program in geography expecting to graduate April 2010. I graduated from the University of Guelph with a BA (honours) degree in Geography in April 2008. My advisor is Dr. Brenda Murphy, and my committee member is Dr. Richard Kuhn (University of Guelph).

Most broadly, my research focuses on environment and resource management emphasizing public participation and policy development. Current research on nuclear fuel waste disposal seeks to identify the benefits and challenges of increased public participation in the siting process for a nuclear fuel waste repository in Canada.

iii) Katelyn Harris, BASc, EIT

“Uncovering Industrial Symbiosis in the City of Guelph”

Katelyn Harris is an Environmental Engineering graduate student at the School of Engineering, University of Guelph.  She recently graduated with her BASc in chemical engineering from the University of Waterloo, where she developed a range of industry experiences through co-op placements.  She has worked with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and local firms to provide policy recommendations in the area of industrial water conservation and is now studying the development of industrial symbiosis in the City of Guelph.
