Research Project Description

Project Learning Goal Description:

"Conducting a Self-Study of My Own Development in Fostering Critical Reflection Among Educators and Students in a University Setting”

I would like to review and evaluate my own development as a critically reflective practitioner through the artifacts and reflections of my own teaching practice and work with faculty in the role of educational development. This would be done based on a self-study of the artifacts of my practice as well as my own reflections on my process.

Personal Goal:

To Foster Critical Reflection Among Educators and Students in a University Setting: To articulate key moments in my own development and the approaches and techniques that have helped faculty across disciplines to incorporate pedagogical strategies that encourage the development and application of learners’ critical reflection skills.

Who:

Myself, based on my own teaching and work I have done with other faculty at the University of Guelph, both in face-to-face courses and in distance learning environments.

Where:

University of Guelph

When:

2002-present

Why:

  • To help other educational developers work with faculty in the development of their own teaching practices
  • To articulate the ways that critical reflection has been integrated into a variety of courses in a variety of disciplines
  • To maximize learners’ success in their work, by encouraging the development of transferable critical reflection skills.

How:

  • Review of artifacts of critically reflective learning strategies in my own courses and of those with whom I have worked
  • Review of resources, workshops, and peer-reviewed journals in which I have published on the topic of critical reflection
  • Review of my own journalling over the past years
