This page contains information on work term reports, including due dates, formats, sample reports, submission procedure, etc. The CIS co-op handbook provides information about choosing a topic and confidentiality -- I'd encourage you to read pages 9 - 14.
Work Reports Due Date
Those who are on an 8-month work term, please note that you should follow the same guidelines below for your interim progress work report. However, note that the final assessment will be based on your final report, but failure to submit an interim progress work or follow these guidelines below will result in a penalty on the final report.
Contents of Work Term Report
The work term report is an important part of co-op, and its assessment
(outstanding, very good, good, satisfactory,
unsatisfactory) will appear on your Academic Record. Therefore, it
is important that you pay attention to the requirements and the expected
content.
Your report should address two main points: (1) what have you learned?, and (2) how has the employer benefited from your work? The report should contain careful analysis rather than conclusions. In other words, the focus shouldn't be just on the outcome of the work, but how it was accomplished.
More important information and guidelines for the work term report can be found at the following URL of Guelph's Co-op educational services Work Report Guidelines.
The length of the report should be between 4 - 6 pages (single-spaced) for a 4-month work term, and 5 - 7 pages (single-spaced) for an 8-month work term.
Sample Reports
Here are some sample work term reports submitted last year by students
from the Guelph-Humber Computing Co-Op. I have additional sample
reports from last year in my office, so feel free to stop by and look at
them.
What to Submit?
Your submission must include:
You can either do the submission in person (hard copy and NOT on disk or CD please), or via email.
Grading Criteria
The work term reports will be evaluated by G-H Computing faculty
members. The following evaluation form
will be used to
assess your work term report.
For those who are on two 4-month work terms, you'll receive two assessments (one for each work term report). And, for those who are on an 8-month work term, the interim report will count for 35% and the final report will count for 65% of the final assessment (i.e. you'll receive the same grade for both work term reports).
