Looking for the Ontario Tree Atlas Project Site?

It's been years since I've updated this site. About time! For those that are interested in the Ontario Tree Atlas Project, click on the link under my name to visit the OTAP section on the University of Guelph Arboretum website. At long last there has been some movement on publishing the results of the project, and hopefully before long our maps will be available for viewing on-line (thanks to the folks at the Canadian Forest Service). When that happens, I'll be sure to post a link, here.

As for me, effective May 2007 I've moved over to the here at the University, after 12 great years at The Arboretum.

I promise that as soon as I find some time, I'll post more.

January 2008

I stumbled across these pictures from last summer (2007) - the files are dated May 22nd. It's the flower of a Cucumber Tree (Magnolia acuminata) taken in my backyard. I've had the tree for six years (although it must be around 10 years old), and this is its first flower!

February 2009

Alas, the flower must have been the Cucumber Tree's last gasp. It didn't make it through the 2007/2008 winter. I cut it back and it suckered up again. We'll keep our fingers crossed to see what happens after winter 2008/2009 decides to call it quits.
