Deposit-Refund Systems
Deposit-refund systems, especially on beverage containers, are very common
around the world. It usually takes the form of a tax on the container
which is wholly or partly refunded when container is handed in to a
recycling depot. Examples can be found by visiting government
environmental agencies around the world (see link on previous page). These
links take you to Saskatchewan, where the deposit-recycle system has been
contracted out in a novel way to provide employment for disabled
adults, and to South Korea, where there is an especially comprehensive deposit-refund system in place.
