Aqueous Ozone in Agriculture

Ozone is a molecule that is worthy of both reverence and malign, depending largely on  its location.  If found in the Earth’s upper atmosphere, ozone is life enabling; if found in the atmosphere at ground level, it is life inhibiting.  If purposefully dissolved in water, ozone becomes an environmentally sound means of treating our water and food.

Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent and, as such, it can be dangerous if not handled properly, yet it can also be extremely useful.  Our research aims to harness the oxidation potential of ozone, using it to meet some of the challenges facing Canada’s agricultural and agri-food sectors.  Our research interests include:  foliar and root-zone pathogen control, control of Marchantia polymorpha, agricultural water remediation, control of food-borne pathogens, shelf-life enhancements in the floriculture industry, and pollution abatement in composting and animal holding facilities.

Over the coming months, this website will be updated with the latest in these areas of research.  I hope you will return to see what’s new!
