The Confucius Temple 2 km to the Northeast of the Forbidden City is a hidden gem just a block west of the more popular Lama Buddhist Temple. Various emperors placed their writings about Confucius on large blocks set on the back of Turtle-Dragons.


The writing on the stele on the back of this sculpted Turtle-Dragon has Manchurian Script as well as a translation in Chinese Script.


The original library at the Confucius Temple contains "The Thirteen Classics", and "borrowers" would taking etchings from the inscribed stone faces.
