Video opens with a student Eddy Dushime. He has black short hair and is wearing a grey collared shirt. He is sitting in front of a red wall in a gold chair. There is a photograph of the Gryphon statue to the right of Eddy on the red wall and a shelf to his left with several decorative items. (light music) [Eddy] After Grade 11, I had no idea what university I was going to go to. I was doing a Computer Science class and that's when I met Mr. Neil, who was my Computer Science, Calculus and first Robotics mentor and he talked to me about his experience at the university and how he came to be a teacher and his passion, how he was supported by the university. So his experience got me thinking that maybe the University of Guelph could work out for me. So I'm Eddie Dushime. I'm an international student from Burundi, East Africa. I'm a third year Computer Science at the University of Guelph. I'm also part of the Call program. The people that are in computer science are so knowledgeable and they are always supportive when it comes to sharing the knowledge and sharing their experience. So the fact that I can learn from other people and see that what I'm learning is going to be useful to me in the future is, is very unique to me. I don't think that there is many ways that can go wrong in Computer Science, because there's so many different paths and different things I can do after graduating that I think it's very unique to Computer Science. [Professor Stacey Scott, CEPS] is sitting in a classroom in front of a white screen. She shoulder length curly brown hair, and is wearing glasses and a burgundy turtle neck sweater. [Stacey] Computers are in all aspects of our society today and so students will go out and work in the software industry, the computing industry but also so in automotive and in business and in financial technology. Our program really gives them the skills and knowledge they need to work in so many different areas, but really the sky's limit of what they can do. [Eddy] First of all, the fact that people just support each other in different team and different categories like students support each other, professors support each other. The experience that I have had as a part-time student worker has been amazing as they support me with my studies as well as my work, everybody lifts each other up. And it's amazing to see. And that's the culture that I am talking about. And that's the culture that made me fall in love with the university. (music continues)
