Following graduation from OVC, Melanie completed a private practice internship in southern California at a performance horse practice.  She then returned to Ontario to work in the Ottawa area, where she grew up.  Prior to joining AHL in July 2014, Melanie worked in private equine practice in the Campbellville area, where she enjoyed lameness and performance horse medicine.  Melanie also provided acupuncture services at a small animal hospital.  She has served as president of the Ontario Association of Equine Practitioners, has completed courses in equine and small animal acupuncture and is an FEI level veterinary delegate for showjumping as well as an FEI treating veterinarian.  Currently, Melanie is the Animal Health Network Coordinator, where she is working to implement the Ontario Animal Health Network, a program designed to be an inclusive, multi-species disease surveillance program across Ontario.  In her free time, Melanie enjoys spending time with her husband and young daughter, hiking with their dog, camping, cross-country skiing and cycling, as well as riding her horse.
