The Ponsonby General Animal Facility is a unique, flexible, multi-purpose research animal housing facility designed to house a variety of livestock species and ages. Swine, sheep, dairy calves, non-lactating cows, beef calves and cows are obtained from other research facilities or private farms.

This facility offers:

  • Five heated rooms with individual pens
  • Semi-heated intensive areas with six group pens that can be subdivided into as many as four individual pens
  • Naturally ventilated area with six large group pens
  • Animal handling area

Research areas and outcomes
